The overall objective of the project is to assess the potential impacts of climate change (CC) on selected aquatic species of
commercial importance in order to propose proper adaptation for sustainable development. The specific objectives of the
4 M Maaiinn OObbjjeeccttiivveess project is (1) to monitor and stimulate the changes of CO 2 and temperature in air and aquaculture ponds; (2) to understand
the impact level of CO 2 and temperature raised due to climate change on various developmental stages of selected culture
species including striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus), black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and white-leg shrimp
(Penaeus vannamei); and (3) to suggest feasible adaptation solutions for sustainable farming.

There are 2 main work packages (WP) including WP1 research activities at CTU and WP2 collaborative research activities with
Japanese Universities. The details of research works are presented in the below diagrams
B B.. RREESSUULLTTSS
1. Field survey of CO 2 in shrimp ponds: High variation of
all parameter by time and depth CO 2 : 2.5 to 5.6 mg/L
(shrimp ponds) and max 55 mg/L in striped catfish From left to right: experimental tanks, glass containers, striped catfish,
ponds – CO 2 at bottom of catfish pond is high at the end whiteleg shrimp and black tiger shrimp
of the culture cycle.

33-34˚C but the survival rate was high at 27˚C; the
shrimp could not survive at 36˚C. At high CO 2
concentrations in water (pH=6.8 and pH=7.2), the
embryonic stage of shrimp developed but larvae could
not grow normally. The growth and survival rate of Abnormal development of embryos of striped catfish was
