Preface

JICA CTU Project includes both Official Development Assistance (ODA) Loan and
Technical Cooperation (TC) Schemes. This report was compiled all activities of the TC
Scheme and a part of activities of the ODA Loan Scheme closely related to the TC. The
duration of the TC is from March 15th, 2016 to December 14th, 2021 (five years and
nine months). This book was reedited and updated the whole information of the Project
Completion report for final evaluation issued on July 31st, 2021.

Great efforts by all Project members and their supporters have made it possible to create
all outputs/outcomes and new findings, which have been achieved despite the unfavorable
environment due to COVID-19 during the last one year and 10 months.

Through all Project activities under the government strategy, Can Tho University (CTU)
could make much clearer prospect to contribute to the Communities, especially in the
Mekong Delta, which was shown in the CTU declaration at the Symposium on March 30th,
2021 as “SDMD Outlook 2045”. SDMD stands for Sustainable Development of the Mekong
Delta leading to the Project Overall Goal.
Thanks to the Project Activities, research and education capacity in three fields
(Agriculture, Aquaculture/Fisheries, Environment) of CTU was tremendously enhanced as
shown in the Report. We are very happy if this book is useful for understanding an overall
perspective of the Project.

We deeply appreciate all members and institutes supported the Project; the Embassy
of Japan, JICA Headquarters and Viet Nam Office and nine Universities of Japanese
Supporting University Consortium in the Japanese side, and the Central Government, 13
local governments in the Mekong Delta, companies, other universities and farmers in the
Mekong Delta as well as CTU staff and students in the Vietnamese side.
