Chapter 4 Results of Joint Review
In addition to the above part of the survey, five questions were asked to the leaders to gain their
statements (Question 2). Summary of statements revealed that leaders felt valuable in that they (1)
learned how to lead a project team, (2) established good connections with Japanese scientists, (3)
improved English writing skills for journal submission, and (4) built a better relationship with local
governments and private sectors, among others. A limited number of difficulties they experienced
include (1) the delay of equipment deployment such that they were forced to conduct research without
newly ordered equipment, and (2) difficulty in running a research team. Statements referring to
difficulty are given in italic on the pages 4.2.3 “Summary of the results of Question 2”.
Despite some of these difficulties, the leaders generally have the impression that both projects are a
great success.
