Chapter 4 Results of Joint Review
➁ Create more opportunities for students to participate in academic activities, seminars, workshops,
field trips, internships, etc.
➂ Necessary to consider measures in order to fit the need of students with different backgrounds
(e.g.: fresh graduate, government officer) (curriculums/ syllabuses/ timetables).
b) Support service
➀ Provide more learning materials and books.
➁ Need more time for supporting students for master’s theses such as writing method of a thesis,
research ideas and research methods and analytical methods of scientific data.
➂ More English subjects/ classes for MSc students to have motivation to study English.
c) Model lecture
For students to understand the contents of model lectures in English more efficiently and effectively
even with co-lecturers, it is recommended 1) to increase preparation time for co-lectures and Japanese
professors to discuss well in advance the contents of a model lecture and ways of proceeding with class
in a limited lecture time, 2) to share lecture slides with students in advance.
d) Participation of local government
➀ There are many suggestions from lecturers and managing staff as well as students to modify the
curriculums and syllabuses so that they will be more suitable for the government officers who
may not have sufficient scientific background related to the programs.
➁ It is found that the New Master’s Programs are very important especially for government officers
in the MDR. Many of them are requested by their province to participate in the Program, and after
completion of the Program they intend to contribute to their local governments and communities
for current issues under climate change.
➂ It is a good example that a student from local government working VTV has made and
broadcasted TV programs on the impact of climate change on rice and possible ways to recover
the salty and aluminum-contaminated soils under collaboration with related department of CoA.
e) Sustainability of the programs
➀ Need more promotion of the Program to attract more students. Under collaboration with local
governments of the MD, CTU will continue to introduce the programs to the society more
effectively with the clear objectives of the Programs as well as the information on the real
situation and problems under climate change. This approach contributes to increase the number
of applicants for the programs. Making leaflets for introducing the three programs is also useful.
➁ Need to create more opportunities for students to participate in (international) seminars/
workshops, etc.
➂ Need to clarify the involvement of Japanese professors in the programs after the JICA CTU Project
is terminated. Online teaching & learning (T & L) mode / digital learning resources would be also
considered.
➃ The New Master’s Programs contribute to the MDR in the field of climate change through human
resource development. In this context, it is expected that more local-government officers will
participate in the programs. To sustain and develop the New Master’s Programs especially for
local governments, it is recommended to optimize the programs to satisfy expectation and
intention of the local governments of the MD.
