impacts from the ODA Loan Projects. The research leaders, researcher and team recently pay more
attention into the intellectual property though we, the college, have developed many protocols for
aquaculture technologies which were disseminated to the industry previously.
In another research program “Quality improvement of fisheries/aquaculture products, F4”, at the
time of implementation, it attracted a Japanese food company named Takesho Food and Ingredient.
They are currently cooperating with the research team in program F4 and other programs in
agriculture for cooperation project. Now, Takesho Food is building up the factory in Can Tho city and
applying the research outcomes in laboratory into the commercial scale. It means that the activities of
TC and ODA Loan Projects highlighted the research, collaboration and outreach capacity of the College
as well as the CTU.
Other programs as “Climate change: impacts and adaptation in aquaculture and fisheries, F1”,
provided evidence which can be used for promulgating policy at national level for climate change
adaptation. Other research programs in field of Aquaculture also produced significant contribution
to the development of the MD, for examples, remote digital control for aquaculture operation, new
bioactive compounds applied for treatments of fish diseases, fisheries resources management and
conservation, environmental monitoring for aquaculture and fisheries and social economic of seafood
value chain. In short, the outcomes of research programs in the field of Aquaculture significantly
contributed to the aquaculture industry in the MD.
Regarding the ODA Loan projects, multidisciplinary research programs building up, it is strengthened
the cooperation not only between departments within the College but also between the departments
in different colleges in CTU. It opened new links between research groups, primarily forming “strong-
talent research groups” which are oriented by the CTU and the Ministry. Also, during implementation
of research programs, there have been many research networks established between staff in CAF and
Japanese scientists. This means that the implementation of TC and ODA Loan projects enhanced the
research networks of the CAF and CTU.
The new ODA WetLabs have been used for training technicians of company on the shrimp seed
production based on the new technologies developed within the F2 program of the Yen-loan project.
Obviously, the implementation of the ODA-CTU improvement project has strongly promoted the
research and technology transfer of the CAF.
In terms of education, the CAF is running two Master programs, one in Vietnamese and one in
English. Especially, in 2020 and 2021, two batches of students have been recruited from Ca Mau
province for the MSc program “Climate change and integrated coastal aquaculture and fisheries
management” supported by the TC project. Again, the TC and ODA-CTU improvement project help
create a new study area and intake of MSc students. This does not only train human resources to meet
the needs of the province but significantly create ways to work with the impact of climate change in the
region.
Within the frameworks of TC and eight ODA Loan Projects, several young lecturers of CAF have
graduated with PhD degrees from Japanese universities and about 20 short study visits have been
conducted by CAF staff to the Universities in Japan. These are key factors facilitating the development
of CAF, in strengthening human resource and international networks. The talent trained staff are
ready for operations for equipment which will be available at the end of this year. The expectation of
effectiveness utilization of the new equipment from the ODA project could be thus surely fulfilled.
