4.4.3 Overall Impact (Environment field)
Environment is one of the three fields of CTU supported by Technical Cooperation Project (TC)-JICA
to promote scientific research and human capacity building. Thanks to the TC Project, the scientific
research of the lecturers at the College of Environment and Natural Resources has improved in terms
of laboratory equipment, laboratory support technician skills and scientific writing skills.
An electric furnace for biochar pyrolysis was installed in 2017 and has been used effectively so far.
Biochar study lately has become one of the new research fields of the college.

Besides, other laboratory equipment was installed in some laboratories of the college for the
qualification and quantification of the pesticide residues in soil and water samples. Interestingly,
in 2018, Dr. SAKA Machiko was dispatched by the TC Project. Dr. Saka, one of the experts from the
Institute of Environmental Toxicology-Japan to CTU for training young staff on pesticides extraction
and analysis.
