Chapter 4 Results of Joint Review

To improve laboratory management skills, two training seminars on laboratory safety were
organized in 2019, under instructed by Dr. KOYAMA Jiro, who served as a Professor at Kagoshima
University. Another seminar on scientific writing organized by Prof. KOYAMA also helped researchers
and lecturers to improve their scientific writing skills.

Thoroughly, we appreciated the project for organizing 4 short-term trainings and sending our staff
to Kagoshima University, Nagasaki University and TUAT for biochar preparation and greenhouse gases
analysis. Thanks to these works, our staff could apply the knowledge and skill for the joint project
on biochar production and application in the MD, Viet Nam. Several local biomasses in the MD were
tested for biochar production and their physicochemical properties. The further studies of the biochar
application were continuously studied in Joint Research Programs (E-3 and E-7) for soil amendment,
nutrient holding potential, and pesticide adsorption.
We would like to sincerely thank the TC Project for all supports for our field. We believe that
knowledge and experience we gained from the Project will help us strengthen research capacity
and building human capacity in order to effectively contribute to reaching the ambitious targets for
promoting our university to be one of the well-recognized universities in Southeast Asia.

Finally, we look forward to the second TC Project in the near future on sustainably developing the MD
in adaptation to climate change and we hope we will be able to continue the excellent cooperation
we have enjoyed so far on this TC Project on sustainably developing the MD in adaptation to climate
            change.
