The three new MSc. programs in Climate changes, including (i) Climate change and Sustainable
Tropical Agriculture, (ii) Climate changes and Integrated Management of Coastal Aquaculture and
Fisheries, and (iii) Climate change and Delta Management, formulated under the support of JICA CTU
projects have been operated successfully over the past three years at CTU. The programs themselves
have inspired many local officers who are interested in acquiring new knowledge and experiences in
climates changes and adaptation to climates changes in the development of agriculture, aquaculture
and fisheries, and delta management under the vulnerability caused by not only climate changes
but also environmental problems which are more and more obvious in the MD. The concerns about
the programs are also raised by the model lectures, a newly developed didactic under collaboration
between Japanese professors and CTU teaching staff. This model is also the first-ever and unique
teaching model that has taken place at CTU as well as in the region. There are several key courses of
each program that are co-taught by Japanese professors and CTU lecturers. At least 3 courses of each
program are supported by Japanese professors from Hokkaido University, Nagasaki University, Tokyo
University of Marine Science and Technology, Kagoshima University, TUAT, etc. The model lectures
have brought the new color of teaching model into the training programs in which the students are
experienced with different teaching styles and relevantly updated knowledge from highly qualified
Japanese professors. During the first two batches of the programs, Japanese professors lectured
physically at CTU, and direct interactions between professors and students created a fascinating
atmosphere of the education at CTU. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the lectures are given online and
maintained without any difficulty. Respected Japanese professors have provided a total of more than 10
lectures to the 3 programs. In addition to lectures, several seminars have been offered either directly or
online.
By running this model lectures, the students can access the practical situations from Japan and the
world through lectures or seminars given by Japanese professors. By this model lectures, students are
much benefited and able to apply and solve encountered issues in their local practices. In addition, the
model lectures also enhance knowledge and experience exchanges between Japanese and Vietnamese
staff that can contribute to strengthening the traditional collaboration between universities of the two
countries.
