Chapter 5 Voices from CTU’s Staff and Students
in participating with some co-teaching lecturers in this education program. I am co-teaching with Prof
Yamanaka from Kobe University of Japan the course of Climate and Meteorology. I have learned many
valuable lessons from Yamanaka’s professionalism, passion, and dedication. Most impressive about
this program, the education excursion went to the North West of Viet Nam that helped students find
the differences in topography, climate, and the influence of climate change on the environment as well
as agriculture. I found that students were quite satisfied with this teaching model and the learning
environment at CTU.

It is my great honor to have the chance to participate in model jointed research, namely “Study on
application of biological control agents for the management of important insect pests and diseases in
paddy fields in the MD of Viet Nam”, which was granted by the Project for Building Capacity for CTU to
be an Excellent Institution of Education, Scientific Research and Technology Transfer.
In fact, our research team needs modern equipment to conduct the research using bacteriophages
(or phages) to control rice bacterial grain rot in the MD of Viet Nam. Fortunately, equipment such as
o o
PCR system, Oven machine, Freezer (-80 C) machine, Autoclave machine, Freezer (-20 C) machine
were invested by the Project. Thereby, the achieved results on biological control of rice bacterial grain
rot in Viet Nam potentially apply in organic farming and apply to control bacterial grain rot in other
countries, including Japan, China, the South of America. In addition, some domestic papers (6 papers)
were published, and one manuscript is underwriting for submission next year.
Besides, with the support from the Project, I got a chance to learn and meet a lot of Japanese
Professors. I am incredibly grateful to Professor Kamei Kaeko from Kyoto Institute of Technology
in Japan for her generous support during the research project and for hosting a training course on
bacteriophage at KIT. I am thankful for aspiring guidance, invaluably constructive criticism, and
friendly advice during the project work.
Last but not least, I would like to express my warm thanks to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Viet Dung and
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Vang, for their support and for connecting a new opportunity that enhanced my
knowledge about my major in this work. In particular, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to my
advisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Nga for the continuous support of my PhD study and research,
for her patience, motivation, enthusiasm, and immense knowledge. Her guidance helped me in all the
time of research and writing this thesis. I could not have imagined having a better advisor and mentor for
my PhD study. Once again, I would like to thank the Project. I hope that there are many collaborations
