Chapter 5 Voices from CTU’s Staff and Students

knowledge and skills in scientific writing from the basic level. Through this course, the acquisition of
English writing skills for scientific publications has been thoroughly presented. Writing has always
been seen as the most troublesome and challenging area for foreign language users, especially scientific
publications. This course also provides interesting materials that can facilitate the follower to expand
and diversify their writing resources. As the first part of this course, we have been instructed on
writing skills on the structure of a sentence, structure of a paragraph, how to break up long sentences,
etc., and common errors in using academic English. These lectures were very useful and practical. In
addition, Prof. Ishimatsu makes sure to explain the issues comprehensively. It is an essential part of
this course that will encourage the followers to improve scientific writing skills. Besides, we had many

opportunities to share and discuss writing difficulties and brainstorm for various solutions as a group.

5.4.1 Importance of Timely Installation of Online Equipment

With the complicated developments of the COVID-19, CTU’s training and meeting activities had to
be moved online; at first, the transition faced many difficulties due to the lack of online equipment.
Accompanying and understanding the difficulties of the University, the Project for Building Capacity
for CTU to be an Excellent Institution of Education, Scientific Research and Technology Transfer has
spent nearly three billion VND to invest in online equipment for nine online teaching cabins, two online
classrooms and a set of dedicated online meeting equipment. This support has helped CTU’s training
and meeting activities (as shown in Figure below) to be continuous and stable during the current
pandemic and social isolation period.
