Chapter 5 Voices from CTU’s Staff and Students

as well as a new project from Japan to improve my research in the future.
5.3.3 Staff participated in BSL3 training courses provided by NIHE

                                          Dr. Nguyen Pham Anh Thi

Lecturer in Biotechnology Research and Development Institute

Manager of Biosafety level 3 Lab
                                          Email: npathi@ctu.edu.vn

I am one of the nine lucky and honored people to participate in the training and will manage and
operate the Biosafety level 3 Laboratory room. This is the first BSL3 standard laboratory of CTU and in
the MDR. CTU hopes to be able to share this facility with scientists in the region to use and maximize
the lab’s function, contributing to the development of the region in the field of education and research.
By participating in useful training courses on biosafety, I have learned a lot of valuable knowledge and
experience from Japanese experts and the support of domestic experts from NIHE. However, I also have
concerns with the assigned task because this is the first standard lab. There are many administrative
procedures to be recognized as standard according to Vietnamese regulations before operating.
Maintenance costs are quite expensive, and Certification procedures and safety regulations are
complicated. However, I believe that even though the Project has ended, Japanese experts will always
accompany and support these activities. Besides, CTU will create the best conditions for scientists
to exploit the lab’s facilities, and we will try our best to raise the level of research and training of the
University to international standards in the future.
5.3.4 Staff participated in a training course on how to write scientific
                    papers in English

                                        Dr. Chau Thi Anh Thy

Lecturer in Department of Soil Science
                                        College of Agriculture

The course guides the followers through all the steps of scientific writing, starting from browsing
literature for the introduction to the final steps of papers submission. This course aims to enhance
