Chapter 5 Voices from CTU’s Staff and Students

joint-research projects, staff and students exchanges, culture exchanges, workshops, and conferences.
The traditional Japanese greeting of bowing to greet others has been very familiar to our staff and
students. It has become one of the meaningful parts of our international campus environment. In
addition, we also took advantage of the 3-triangle collaboration model in which Japanese industries
join as third parties. This kind of collaboration includes recruitments, internship programs, and
R&D. During the Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to the efforts from both sides, there have been many
activities carried out through online means. The activities are online meetings, online workshops and
conferences, online lectures, and online internships. The daily emails with wishes like “safe stay”, “good
health”, “miss you all” really warms and strengthens the friendships and promise of collaboration.

Associate Prof. Dr. Le Nguyen Doan Khoi

                                           Director

I will never forget the enthusiastic support of Prof. Dr. Takeshi Takano, who is in charge of the
International Affairs Department of Hokkaido University. I have gained insights and ideas for
promising areas and modalities through the training course to further diversify CTU’s industry-
university-government cooperation. My suggestions and recommendations regarding increased
autonomy and resources (additional resource creation and allocation), where possible and appropriate,
for professors and researchers at CTU would also be topics of importance to motivate further and
expand Industry-university-government cooperation, and to eventually bring more incredible benefits
for CTU, the region and the nation as a whole. There are six points indicated as insights and potential
            areas/topics for future focuses:

                • Enhancing the linkages with alumni network in doing research and technology transfer
                • Focus on main regional products such as OCOP (One Commune One product) national program
                • Diversification of linkages: contracting, research coordination, basic/leading research, product
                    testing, etc.
                • Increase the autonomy for professor, create opportunities for professor to joint research in a
                    big company
                • Contribute capital to the UNIVERSITY from research products and innovation funds
                • Focus on applied research, commercialization of research products or business incubation.
For the Project’s impact on the issues of Industry-University-Government collaboration, I recognized
it very effectively. The Project supports promptly sharing the CTU’s research results to socio-economic
