Chapter 3 Key Factors affecting Implementation and Outcomes
<AQUACULTURE AND FISHERIES>
3. Effects of increased carbon dioxide (CO ) concentration and temperature on important
2
aquaculture species in the MD, Viet Nam;
4. A study on environment monitoring for the impacts of climate change on aquaculture and
fisheries in the MDR;
<ENVIRONMENT>
5. Sustainable application of biochar from green biomass to mitigate greenhouse gases emission
from paddy fields and to improve soil ecology in the MD; and
6. A feasibility study for an environmental and climate sensor network to support agriculture and
aquaculture development.
Of these six proposals, five were selected through two rounds of discussion to submit to JICA on April
th
30 , 2015.
st
The 1 round selection was based on the following criteria raised by the TC Project:
− Urgencies and sustainability in terms of adaptation to climate change in the MD;
− Feasibility from the viewpoints not only of research team’s capacity, team members’ past
achievements, and facilities/equipment;
− Impact on the MD communities/industries;
− Probability of publication in international journals (in accordance with the CTU’s aiming at
becoming an internationally recognized research university);
− Interdisciplinarity in research approaches; and
− Availability of Japanese partner universities.
nd
The 2 round selection was based on the additional criteria requested by CTU:
− Establishing bases for the future generations of research projects;
− Obtaining the “know-how” of new technologies from Japanese partners;
− Recommending specific Japanese partners (names of scientists, departments, colleges, etc.);
− Supporting PhD education; and
− Having additional funds.
