Chapter 6 Lessons Learned
6.2 Joint lectures in English by both
CTU and Japanese universities
The ongoing Master Program (climate change)
has gained good reputation, especially from the
officers of the local governments that are facing
climate change impacts. Since some officers are
insufficiently fluent in English, the course has been
given basically in Vietnamese, with the lectures
by Japanese Professors given in English. The
contents of English lectures are translated into
Vietnamese by CTU co-lecturers to help students
better understand them. This style has had positive
consequences in two ways: 1) promoting co-
lecturers’ better understanding of the lecture
contents and 2) encouraging students to learn and
use English for example during questioning.
Joint Lectures by Prof. MAITA Masashi
It was often pointed out that the language
(TUMSAT) and Dr. Tong Thi Anh Ngoc (CoA,
barrier hindered lectures, which may be overcome
CTU) <Subject: Food Quality Management and
by the joint lecture with some more improvements.

6.3 Promoting foreign students
under effective scholarship
CTU is an attractive institution to accept
overseas students who are interested in
agriculture, aquaculture and natural environment
in the MD. The Master's Course (climate change) of
the Project was initially planned to accept students
from neighboring countries. Unfortunately, this did
not happen due to unavailability of scholarship. In
order to accept overseas students in a new course,
especially at initial stages, some kind of monetary
support such as scholarship is indispensable. VLIR-
UOS Program under the support of Belgium is

effectively running at CTU.
