Apr. 2017 – Dec. 2020) The Project invited and received 2 staff members from JICA Viet Nam office (Ha-
noi and HCMC) in charge of “Support for Japanese Small and Medium Enterprises
(SMEs) Overseas Business Development” on 14th May 2019. They introduced JICA’s
trials of promoting public-private partnerships in Viet Nam to the Director of Center
for Technology Transfer and Services of CTU and the Director introduced to them
about the CTU’s activities related to collaboration with local companies.
In November 2020, Project members visited 4 provinces (Hau Giang, Vinh Long, Soc
Trang, and Bac Lieu) and local districts of Can Tho City with core members of CTU
for the purpose of monitoring research sites and strengthening collaboration with
local governments and communities.
At the International Symposium “Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta
th
(SDMD-2021)” held on March 30 , 2021, the importance of collaboration for sus-
tainable development under climate change was emphasized and shared among
local governments, communities, companies and universities in MDR.

[Note]
1. In Viet Nam, collaboration with local governments is quite important, especially
for field activities. Therefore, in order to promote collaboration with local companies,
institutions and communities, etc. in the MDR, supports of local governments are
indispensable. CTU has been contributing to capacity enhancement of the local
governments in the field of academic issues (research, education and outreach).
2. CTU has already had strong networks for many years with local governments,
local companies and communities, etc. in the MDR. CTU has sent several thousands of
graduates into the society of the region every year since its foundation in 1966. It is
estimated that more than 80% of the graduates are working for local industries, local
governments and communities in the MDR.
