For the implementation of the second batch of research project, the Project Management Unit (PMU) of CTU Improvement Project organized the meetings of 15 Technical Committees on the 11th, 12th and 13th of June 2018 to evaluate 15 submitted research proposals. These proposals have been called and processed since 5th January 2018 and will be implemented in 3 years starting from October 2018. The organization of these Technical Committees’ meetings follows the selection process in the Guidelines for Research Management of the CTU Improvement Project established based on the official Project documents, i.e., the Feasibility Study document and the Minutes of Discussion of different meetings among JICA, delegations of Japanese Professors, Project consultants and CTU, as well as the Guidelines for Management of Research Projects in the Circular 11/2016/TT-BGDĐT dated 11th April 2016 of the Ministry of Education and Training.

15 proposals have been thoroughly reviewed by the Japanese Technical Committees from 9 Japanese Universities then revised accordingly by the research teams; therefore, they were qualified and selected by the Committees to be suitably granted by the Project in 2018. Each research team presented their proposals and responded to various constructive critics from the Committee members. All 15 proposals would be revised according to the Committee’s conclusions then sent to the Japanese Technical Committees for the second review. Those proposals are:
- Application of genetic and breeding technologies for new livestock varieties with improved quality and adaptability to climate changes and other environmental stresses – Leader: Assoc. Prof. Nguyễn Thị Kim Khang
- Studies on insect pests and diseases and development of alternative plant protection technologies – Leader: Assoc. Prof. Lê Văn Vàng
- Studies on bio-remediation of MDR problem soil under impacts of climate change – Leader: Dr. Dương Minh Viễn
- Improve animal production systems for higher quality and safety of products – Leader: Prof. Nguyễn Văn Thu
- Microbial and pharmaceutical studies for animal disease treatment – Leader: Assoc. Prof. Trần Ngọc Bích
- Agricultural machineries – Leader: Assoc. Prof. Ngô Quang Hiếu
- To study potential mitigation strategies to eliminate impacts of natural disasters on agriculture, aquaculture and water supply (including both urban & industry sections) – Leader: Assoc. Prof. Lê Anh Tuấn
- To study the planning and managing mechanism of rural, urban and industrial zones to eliminate the pollutant added to the environment (including GHG) – Leader: Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Hoàng
- To study possible solutions to protect the existing biodiversity and natural resources – Leader: Dr. Dương Văn Ni
- To study the socio-economic feasibility of the (above) solutions – Leader: Assoc. Prof. Võ Thành Danh
