On December 15th, 2016, Can Tho University (CTU) held Kick-off Meeting of Consulting Services for Can Tho University Improvement Project. Attending the meeting were representatives of JICA Vietnam Office, representatives of the contractors of consulting services, CTU’s Rectorate Board, Project Management Unit, and leaders of CTU’s units.

Can Tho University Improvement Project with the objective of strengthening CTU to become excellent, internationally recognized university in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries, environment and related fields, contributing to the socio-economic development, adaptation to climate change, environmental protection, increase of the value of agricultural and fishery products in the Mekong Delta. Also, the project will contribute to strengthening the capacity of CTU’s high-quality human resource training, the improvement of scientific research in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries, environment and other fields. The main components of the project include development of human resources, implementation of joint research programs, facility construction, and equipment procurement.
The kick-off meeting of Consulting Services for Can Tho University Improvement Project is an important turning point to start new step in the smooth implementation of Can Tho University Improvement Project. Accordingly, the joint venture of Nihon Sekkei, JICE, Earl Consultants and NAGECCO won the contract of the consulting services for Can Tho University Improvement Project.

Through the meeting, the stakeholders can clarify the progress so far and the bottlenecks or concerns to have a sole common understanding to jointly solve the problem. In addition, the project management unit has been trained on JICA’s guidelines for Procurement and Disbursement procedures. It is very important for the project management unit to deeply understand the ODA loan’s procedures for the smooth project implementation.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Naoki Kakioka, senior representative of JICA Vietnam Office said that JICA has been and will be supporting CTU to further develop through various ODA scheme, and JICA will do the best in cooperating with CTU to develop agriculture and aquaculture as well as to progress the capacities in science and technology research.
